Ensure your device meets the requirements (iOS 13.0 or later, with at least ~150 MB free space for the app). Launch the app once installed.
Create an Account (Email Verification)
When you open the app, you’ll be prompted to enter your email address and create an account. Valeo uses your email for account recovery and important notifications, so use a valid email that you can access. After entering your email, the app will send a one-time 6-digit verification code to that address. Enter the code to verify your email. This step helps ensure you can recover your account if you ever lose access to your device. (Valeo never shares your email with third parties and won’t send spam; it’s only used for essential purposes like recovery and security alerts.)
Wallet Generation
Once your email is verified, Valeo will automatically generate your SPL Solana wallet in-app. This involves creating a public address and a corresponding private key (secured by a 12-word recovery phrase) for you. The wallet generation is instant (a few seconds) and happens locally on your device. At this stage, Valeo does NOT take custody of your keys – they are created client-side, and you’ll be the only one holding them.
Backup Your Recovery Phrase
The app will now display your 12-word recovery phrase (sometimes called a seed phrase). Write down all 12 words in order on paper. Take your time with this step; it’s crucial for your security. After writing it, the app may ask you to confirm a couple of the words to ensure you’ve recorded it correctly. Store this paper in a safe place (as discussed in the Self-Custody section above). Confirm that you have securely stored the phrase before proceeding. This phrase is your lifeline to recover your wallet if you lose your phone – treat it with extreme care.
Enable Biometric Security
Next, you’ll be prompted to enable Face ID or Touch ID (depending on your device capabilities) for the Valeo app. Enabling biometrics is highly recommended for convenience and added security. With this enabled, every time you open the app or authorize a transaction, you can use your fingerprint or facial recognition instead of entering a password. (You can also set a PIN as fallback or if you prefer not to use biometrics.) This step takes only a few seconds and greatly improves the user experience and security.
Ready to Go
That’s it – your Valeo wallet is now set up! In summary, you have created an account, verified your email, generated a secure crypto wallet, backed up your keys, and secured the app with biometrics in just a couple of minutes. You should now see the Home screen showing your new wallet’s public address and a $0 balance (since you haven’t added funds yet). You are now ready to add funds and start using Valeo.
Throughout the setup, Valeo provides on-screen guidance, and the process is designed to be newbie-friendly.
Best Practice: As part of initial setup, Valeo recommends you enable notifications (so you get alerts for incoming funds or unusual login attempts) and perhaps do a test transaction once you add funds. For example, after adding some money, try sending a very small amount to a friend or another of your wallets. This helps you become comfortable with the process and confirms that everything is working as expected.
